Recently, we've been working with The Generation Project.org, a unique educational philanthropy based in Ann Arbor, Michigan (MI). The Generation Project.org is focused on inspiring young professionals to become next generation philanthropists by donating more than just a check to further educational opportunities for low-income K-12 students.
The concept behind The Generation Project is that the donor has creative control over their donation or "gift". By giving donors creative control, The Generation Project let's you share your ideas and passions that influenced your life. Many times, extracurricular opportunities build skills and experiences that are not found in the classroom, like teamwork on a club sports team or public speaking skills from a debate team. The Generation Project donors are able to draw from their own experiences and incorporate their own passions into their educational gift. For example, a former collegiate basketball player could sponsor a 3rd grade basketball team by providing shoes for the entire team.
You can make a difference in education, become a donor for The Generation Project.org.

To capture the attention of The Generation Project's target audience, as well as the brand personality, we focused on the elements of color and symbolic imagery that we incorporated into the design.
Color
Color is a very powerful symbol that many people subconsciously draw many emotions and meanings from. We chose the vibrant orange color for this logo design to emphasize energy and empowerment; ideal for inspire new philanthropists. To balance the energy of the orange, we selected a dark brown for neutrality and reliability.
Symbolism and Imagery
The Generation Project logo is meant to universally symbolize growth and the sharing of an educational gift or empowerment, without the use of cliche educational imagery. We chose to symbolize empowerment and enlightenment by the star featured in the logo. The Generation Project icon embodies the universality and growth, in addition to symbolizing impact across different generations.
Font Selection
For The Generation Project logo we wanted a bold font that made a statement as well as emphasizing a modern, contemporary feel to appeal to a younger demographic. We chose the font compacta, which is a san-serif font with bold and wide styling. To balance a similar feel to the main logo text, we used impact for the tagline/slogan.
Web Design
Once we had visually establish a logo and color scheme for The Generation Project logo, we were able to design their website based on similar principles of brand analysis; we stuck closely to the color palette of the logo design and well as a font selection that had similar qualities to the main logo fonts. For the web design itself, we were inspired to portray the human element of giving to an educational philanthropy, while maintaining a theme of growth through the whole site.
